SERA 3

In order to achieve the 100 km suborbital flight goal, a new series of rockets are currently under development called SERA (Supersonic Experimental Rocket ARES).

The main objective is to validate technologies that allow flights at supersonic speed and altitudes greater than 5 km.

SERA3 is the biggest rocket ever launched by PERSEUS, with 5m long and almost 80kg at launch. For the first time, PERSEUS will launch a rocket with three pro98. Those engines must lead to an acceleration of 10 or 12G at ignition. The synchronization of the engine’s ignition is one of the greatest challenges for the students’ team, helped by professionals.
The fuselage of the rocket has also changed. It is no longer like a uniform cylinder because the rocket has now a skirt between the first and the second stage.

SSC is delivering the launch service for the SERA rocket campaign at Esrange Space Center.

SERA3 – One step closer to the stars!
PERSEUS is an initiative set up by the French Space Agency (CNES). This year looks very fruitful for the Perseus project, especially the SERAs demonstrators. The aim is to test innovations and promising technologies. To achieve this objective, students from University or High Engineering School (French particularity) are coordinating their efforts to build technology
demonstrators.
