Visitor Center

We welcome spontaneous and invited guests to our Visitor Center, located at the gate of our Esrange Space Center. For security reasons, Esrange Space Center itself is however not open to the public.

At the Visitor Center, which is typically unmanned, both spontaneous visitors and invited guests can gain insight into our operations and the activities behind the Esrange gates.

Our doors are open every day from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. While the visitor center is usually unmanned, we want your visit to be enjoyable, so help yourself to complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies. Whether you’re a space enthusiast or simply curious, we hope you have an inspiring and memorable experience at Esrange Space Center!

How to get here

You can reach Esrange Space Center by taxi or car. There is no public transportation to the center. The airport offers rental cars.

Starting point: Kiruna airport

  1. Drive approx. 2.4 km and turn right on E10, South
  2. Drive 5.4 km
  3. Turn left towards Jukkasjärvi and Paksuniemi
  4. Drive  6.2 km and then, after passing the Icehotel in the middle of Jukkasjärvi, turn left towards Paksuniemi and Esrange
  5. Drive 6.3 km and then follow the road turning left in Paksuniemi
  6. Drive 18 km until you reach the end of the road, then you arrive at Esrange Guard (you will pass the ESA Satellite Station located 7 km before arriving at Esrange).
  7. Esrange Visitor Center can be found to the left of the Guard building.

What are the opening hours?

Every day at 08.00-18.00

Yes, anyone can visit the Visitor Center. For security reasons, the area inside the gates is not open to the public.

Outside the gate of Esrange Space Center, 45 km northeast of Kiruna, at the end of the Paksuniemi road.
