Payloads and Systems

Developing payloads since 1975 in close co-operation with our customer

The payloads are developed for different platforms such as aircrafts, balloons, sounding rockets, space shuttles and satellites.  The majority are for scientific use performing experiments in microgravity. In this context SSC has also developed interface and control electronics, mechanical booms, optical benches and other support systems for payloads.

What we offer our customers

We offer consulting services, studies, research and development, testing, operations and management for users to perform research under microgravity conditions.

We provide opportunities for researchers to conduct their experiments on sounding rockets, aircraft, unmanned spacecraft, retrievable capsules and the International Space Station (ISS). We also support users during campaign preparations, during the flight and with post-flight activities.

Experiment modules and facilities

In total, SSC has developed 69 suborbital rocket experiment modules for rocket flights, 17 experiment facilities for parabolic flights, 4 Get Away Special-payloads for space shuttles, and 2 Xray furnace experiment systems for ground laboratory use. SSC has also delivered experiment hardware for astronaut training in the Columbus mockup and for EuroMIR -95, and will deliver X-ray Experiment Units for the ISS.

Test and Validation

Test and validation is the core of having a successful mission. SSC is validating all systems flying in any of our platforms, following well-established procedures to test and fulfill all requirements. Our heritage of successful missions has given us a competitive experience-based service for any test and validation in our field.

Software Development

SSC provides software development for both flight systems and ground support systems. Our flight systems are fully real-time based and providing experiment control during flight. We can assist you in developing software for any mission control. Our existing framework of flight software is a library of flight-proven code, configurable for literally any sensing and control.

We also offer full ground support software for handling communication and experiment control, as well as controlling any ground support equipment.
