Space is becoming increasingly important for a sustainable and secure social development on Earth. Meanwhile, Sweden’s role within the global space sector is growing more important. At this year’s Almedalen political week in Visby, Sweden, SSC will be present to discuss the future of space. We will organize two seminars of our own and participate in a panel discussion.
28 June (1.00-1.45 pm): Esrange, Europe’s gateway to space – a key for security and defence
The capability to launch satellites from Spaceport Esrange in northern Sweden is of great importance for European and Swedish defense capability in the current geopolitical and security reality. This seminar puts space in its security policy context, focusing on the needs of the Swedish Armed Forces and the opportunities of Esrange Space Center.

29 June (4.30-5.30 pm): Europe’s gateway to space – how can the unique space cluster in Norrbotten strengthen the region?
The Norrbotten region in northern Sweden has today one of the world’s most innovative and high-tech space ecosystems with, among other things, the Esrange Space Center and Luleå University of Technology. But how do we get better at using the opportunities of space for the sustainable development of our societies? And what is needed for the space sector to flourish? In this seminar, we discuss the possibilities of building our future society, with space from Sweden.
