Lift-off for Marcus Wandt

Today Sweden’s third astronaut, Marcus Wandt, will start his journey to the International Space Station (ISS) onboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at 23:11 Swedish time. As one of the partners of Marcus’ space journey, all of us at SSC feel both proud and excited.

The image shows Marcus’ visit to SSC’s laboratory in June 2023, where we prepare experiments to be launched to Space from Esrange Space Center.

The Falcon 9’s launch of the Axiom Mission 3 to ISS takes place from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This mission is a collaboration between the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA), ESA, NASA and the American space companies Axiom Space and SpaceX. Three astronauts will accompany Marcus; Michael López-Alegría, Axiom Space’s chief astronaut, Walter Villadei, an Italian Air Force colonel and pilot for the mission, and Mission Specialist Alper Gezeravci from Türkiye.

Saab AB, also a sponsor of this mission, has a space studio program, broadcasted on 17 January from 11 am, where SSC’s Linda Lyckman is participating.
