The Lapland summer sky fills with smoke as the German rocket ATEK/MAPHEUS 8, financed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) program “Space Research and Technology, is launched from Esrange Space Center in Kiruna.
The mission aims to gather data from health monitoring systems on sounding rocket structures and to offer six minutes of microgravity for experiments in the field of biology, physics and material science. Shortly, many more sounding rocket launches will follow.
The ATEK/MAPHEUS 8 rocket was launched on 13 June at 02.21 UTC and 04.21 local time. The payload has been brought back to Esrange Space Center.
