NASA XL-Calibur balloon launched

At 05:04 local time on the 9th of July, the XL-Calibur balloon from NASA was successfully launched from Esrange Space Center.

The balloon has a volume of 1,12 million m3 when fully developed and it will hover across the Atlantic ocean at approximately 38 km altitude with the aim to land in northern Canada.

It is expected to be seen from a long distance both in northern Sweden as well as northern Norway before heading over the Atlantic ocean.
