Each year, representatives from Swedish politics, academia and business gather in Visby, Gotland for the ”Almedalen week” to meet, talk, debate – and listen. This year, we joined the conversation to highlight the importance of space for critical societal functions, as well as the role of space capabilities in security and defense in a more tense geopolitical situation.
Karin Holmqvist, Head of Public & Governmental Affairs, Peter Millar, Head of Defense Affairs, and Emma Stenholm, Chief Security Officer, represented SSC in face-to-face meetings, panel and roundtable discussions.
The topics varied:
As a leading space hub in Sweden, the Norrbotten region has a key role in building societal development and strengthened security. In a panel discussion hosted by Luleå University of Technology, the participants discussed the future of Swedish space research, infrastructure and capabilities.

Another panel discussion, hosted by Ovzon, focused on lessons learned from the war in Ukraine, and how Sweden can build security and sovereignty with space-based technology – with space playing a key role in creating security and sovereignty, by ensuring robust information transfer on the ground, in the air, at sea and in space.

At a time when the geopolitical situation in the world is changing, healthcare providers and companies have an important role for public security and robust preparedness. In this seminar, hosted by Capio, the participants discussed how hybrid warfare can affect healthcare infrastructure, how to act on cyberattacks against healthcare systems, and how disinformation can affect both healthcare personnel and patients.
