Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) joined the Nordic Space Day at Expo 2025 in Osaka, a high-level forum designed to strengthen collaboration between the Nordic countries and Japan in space innovation, security, and science.
Co-hosted by Business Sweden, the Nordic Embassies in Japan, and the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA), the event gathered leading representatives from government, agencies, and industry to explore how cross-border partnerships can drive technological progress and sustainable growth in the global space sector.
With over 40 years of experience serving the Japanese market, SSC has built strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and leading commercial satellite operators.
“We are excited to deepen our engagement with the Japanese space community, where we see great opportunities and a strong match for delivering our advanced space services in science, ground station services, and orbital launch”, says Fredrik Gisle, Head of Market Region APAC.

Representing SSC at the Nordic Space Day were Fredrik Gisle, Head of Market Region APAC, Henrik Pettersson, Vice President Business Development, and Carina Aspenberg, SvP and Head of Communication. Together, they contributed to discussions and presentations that highlight SSC’s capabilities and growing presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
Participation in panels and presentations
- Fredrik Gisle joined the panel “Building Commercial Partnerships in Space” together with industry leaders including Astroscale, ECAPS, and KSAT, presenting our world-leading ground station services offering.
- Fredrik also presented SSC’s decision to establish a Tokyo office and outlining the company’s long-term vision in the region.
- Henrik Pettersson took part in the panel “Satellite Manufacturing & Launch Services”, sharing SSC’s expertise in satellite operations and launch services.
Director General at SNSA Dr. Ella Carlsson started off the Nordic Space Day with welcoming remarks and Sweden’s astronaut Marcus Wandt, now Chief Innovation Officer at Saab, shared his perspective on international space cooperation alongside JAXA astronaut Dr. Satoshi Furukawa.
The event also featured contributions from Dr. Olle Norberg, Director General of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF), and Christian Hånberg, Head of Industrial Policy and Telecommunication at SNSA.
Other prominent participants included representatives from ESA, Andøya Spaceport, Beyond Gravity, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and KSAT, all contributing to panels on defense and security, launch services, and innovation. Together, these discussions addressed themes ranging from cross-border commercial partnerships to lunar exploration and the future of satellite-based services.
Visit to JAXA and Tsukuba Space Center
Following Nordic Space Day, the Swedish delegation continued to Tokyo for a visit to JAXA Headquarters and the Tsukuba Space Center. Guests were welcomed by Dr. Hiroshi Yamakawa, President of JAXA, alongside other leading representatives at JAXA.
The site visit featured presentations on JAXA’s capabilities in areas such as Earth Observation, Space Situational Awareness, Sustainability, and Japan–Europe collaboration in space science. The Swedish contributions included a presentation from SNSA, remarks from IRF, and company introductions from the delegation. The program concluded with a guided tour of Tsukuba Space Center’s facilities and a group photo at Rocket Square.
“By participating in Nordic Space Day, SSC strengthens its ties with Japanese partners, promotes Nordic innovation, and contributes to shaping a future of sustainable and collaborative space exploration”, concludes Fredrik Gisle.
