Position Summary:

The Ground Systems Infrastructure Team (GSI) team is responsible to specify, plan, establish, handover and maintain all infrastructure that support SaMS customers. The team is responsible for coordination and harmonization of processes that allows SaMS to deliver customer’s expectations.

Goals and Objectives of the Organization

Ground Systems Infrastructure:

The GSI organization, in close cooperation with other units of the Service Delivery Organization as well as with the sales organization and Engineer department, shall maintain current infrastructure, provide second line technical support and establishes new infrastructure based on customer requirements and according to SSC standards for multi-mission services. This means to maximize the availability of the infrastructure for all missions and hosted systems.

Purpose of the role

  • Achieve high availability for the ground system>99.6%
  • Improve maintainability for the ground station network
  • Understand operational needs and requirements to implement and maintain an effective maintenance process
  • Understand hosting customer needs and follow their maintenance routines
  • Ensure that technical designs meet operational requirements
  • Follow up and ensure that the ground station delivery is on- or above customers’ expectations and exceed the SLAs
  • Streamline ground station processes and tools
  • Set the operational technical requirements for development of the ground station architecture
  • Provide leadership for the operation and maintenance team at the ground stations in the Region
  • Responsible for the health and safety of personnel and physical security of the site(s)


Main Task

  • Review and improve all preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for antenna systems, baseband, facilities, systems infrastructure
  • Improve Availability
    • All preventive maintenance activities and schedules in one database (Maintenance Connection)
    • Complete RAMS analysis for all sub-systems
    • Analyze historical failure data to determine any improvements that can be implemented
    • Regular exercising of redundancy switching and deconfliction procedures
    • Obsolescence planning
    • Ensure availability of spare parts inventory for the ground stations
  • Maintain and support Sustainability plan for SSC ground stations
  • To implement the global routines and tools for ground station
  • Spare parts management
  • Manage and report on the investment plan to develop, improve and streamline operational facilities in SSC’s ground station network
  • Responsible for investment of new resources or refurbishment of resources, to ensure a cost-effective use of existing ground station resources
  • Act as Operation’s technical lead for new resources on the existing ground stations
  • Represent Operations in procurement of new ground systems equipment for projects or new sites, in coordination with Infrastructure Establishment group and SSC Procurement
  • Review and set operational requirements in the Sales Decision Process.  
  • Contribute with operational ground systems technology support for business development
  • Responsible for coordination for new antenna at the site together with site stakeholders
  • Maintain and develop relations with the authorities in each site
  • Follow up and renewal of budget related to the site and assets
  • Authorize and approve expenses and invoices
  • Manage agreements with external resources (civil works / technical suppliers / vendors
  • Keep full Documentation package to assure correct functions and maintenance for the infrastructure




  • A Bachelor´s degree in Engineering or technical field or similar experience


Experience and Special Competence:

  • Broad understanding of ground station architecture and technical requirements
  • Experience of the Ground System hardware



  • Comprehensive understanding of the theoretical aspects of the “space-to-ground”
  • Project Management experience, professional certification beneficial
  • Prior line management experience preferred
