Requirements

Specific Qualification requirements
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Physics, Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Knowledge of Linux environments: able to work comfortably in the command line, run scripts, review and filter logs, manage basic permissions, connect to remote servers via SSH, and transfer files using FTP/SFTP/FTPS from the terminal.
  • Good understanding of C/C++ and Python: enough to follow general code structure, interpret build or runtime error messages, adjust simple parameters, and use tools or utilities associated with the software (build systems, helper scripts, etc.).
  • Competence in using Docker technology: capable of starting and stopping containers, checking container status, accessing containers for basic diagnostics, rebuilding simple images, and maintaining a stable dockerized execution environment.
  • Expertise (at least familiarity) with thermal infrared and short wave infrared spectrometer measurement principles for land observation as highly desirable plus.
  • A good knowledge of the English.
Legal and Security Requirements
  • All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands.
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. SSC Space Netherlands will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
  • Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to SSC Space Netherlands a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident.

Responsibilities

Specific Tasks
  • Support the systems engineering team performing simulations to assess and evaluate the effects of non-compliance on the mission performance.
  • Operate E2E, OPSI, and related software tools in a remote Linux environment using a command line interface to ensure their proper verification and validation.
  • Support the team for reviews of end-to-end mission performance software components developed in C/C++ and Python and actively participate in project meetings.
  • Provide support in the production and verification of test data sets for performance simulators.
  • Support the team in the preparation of the in-orbit commissioning activities. 
  • Contribute to the analysis of data collected during on-ground and in-orbit calibration and characterization campaigns.
  • Identify software anomalies and report them to developers for further analysis.
  • Perform software installation, integration, and environment setup in remote Linux servers.
  • Support the system engineering team in the requirements verification process, particularly in the preparation of Verification Control Boards (VCB) including tracking verification status and compliance.
  • Participate in technical reviews and provide relevant inputs.

  • The selected candidate will receive good remuneration in line with ESA Job Class.
  • Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands.
  • The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
