Balloon launch Esrange

HEMERA ZPB 2021

HEMERA is a balloon infrastructure project, funded by the European Commission within its programme Horizon2020. 

Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation.

It tackles climate change, helps to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and boosts the EU’s competitiveness and growth.

The programme facilitates collaboration and strengthens the impact of research and innovation in developing, supporting and implementing EU policies while tackling global challenges. It supports creating and better dispersing of excellent knowledge and technologies.

On this mission seven experiments are flying onboard a zero pressure balloon on 150 000 m3

Objective:
Collect grains and aerosols (interstellar dust) to investigate compunds of the solar system

Rigourd (STRATOBUS)

Objective:
Test ERC (Emergency Recovery Capacity) for STRATOBUS: A project from Thales concerning a network of blimps at 19-21 km. Wish to test how to ”detonate” the envelope of the blimps in case of loss of control.

Separete gondola hanging below, 7 kg on the Gondola, 30 kg suspended below

Santoni (STRAINS)

Objective:
Explore new tracking methods for balloons – Time Of Arrival, Frequency Difference of Arrival, Single Motorized Station Tracking
Size:

Stude (BAMARA)

Objective:
Measure ions in the atmosphere with a mass spectromoter (Liquid Neon Cryo pump thorugh floor)
Size:

Turunen (B-TRUE)

Objective:
Measuring electrons in the atmosphere using a silicon telescope
