For more than four decades, SSC Space has supported the Japanese space sector through trusted relationships, high-quality services, and strong reputation. With the establishment of a new office in Tokyo, we are now moving from serving the market remotely to becoming an even more active part of one of the world’s most dynamic space ecosystems.

A growing space economy
Japan’s space market is expanding quickly. The country aims to significantly grow its space economy through advances in launch services, satellites, and commercial space technology.

Government investments in space R&D, national security, and satellite data capabilities are increasing, driven by a clear ambition to strengthen sovereign capabilities. Meanwhile, commercialization is accelerated by a new generation of private space companies, empowered by smaller satellites, reduced launch costs, and shorter innovation cycles.

Major industrial groups such as Sony and Panasonic are exploring space ventures, and startups are scaling up their efforts. What was once a predominantly government-driven market is becoming increasingly innovation-led and commercially focused.

“Over decades, SSC Space has built a strong reputation in the growing Japanese space market. The establishment of a legal entity and office in Tokyo has ensured visibility and day-to-day interaction with customers, partners, and industry peers. This will help us build closer relations to the many commercial space ventures entering the market,” says Fredrik Gisle, Head of Market Region APAC, SSC Space Connect division.

Expanded role built on trust
With a growing focus on commercial opportunities in Japan, embedded in the corporate business strategy, SSC Space will continue to nurture long-standing customer relationships, stability and trust.

Leading these efforts, SSC Space has appointed Mac Kanazawa, Business Development Director in Japan, who will focus on engaging emerging and private actors.

“The Japanese space industry is transforming rapidly. New private players are entering the market, and small satellite constellations are lowering barriers to entry. Cost efficiency and speed are becoming critical differentiators,” Kanazawa emphasizes.
