The last two BARREL balloons were launched from Esrange Space Center on August 25. 3F was launched at 08:39 local time and 3G at 10:58 local time. Barrel 3E was cut down on August 22 after a flight time of around 36 hours.
Seven balloons (BARREL 3A to 3G) have been launched during the period August 10-25. All payloads were successfully recovered.
BARREL is a balloon-based Mission of Opportunity to augment the measurements of NASA's Van Allen Probes spacecraft. The primary scientific objective is to understand the processes responsible for scattering relativistic electrons into Earth's atmosphere.
